The health benefits of garlic may have more of an impact on you than you realize. We commonly overlook this vegetable and use it as a seasoning to add flavor to our food, but the medicinal purpose of garlic is amazing. By no means am I encouraging you to eat garlic every day or dump garlic powder on your next slice of pizza, but eating healthy is the Karibbean way.

Garlic is commonly used in recipes that represents our Kulture. The smell is amazing when you fry it in your cast iron skillet. The taste adds so much flavor whether you boil it and drink it as tea or eat garlic at night in its raw form when you are under the weather. I love that my go to ingredient, garlic is packed with so many health benefits when cooking my favorite meals. Not only does the taste pack a nice punch, but this may motivate me to eat garlic every day. Below are just a few examples of the health benefits of garlic. 

  • Builds Immune System 

Garlic has the ability to increase your T-cells. T- cells, also known as T lymphocyte or thymocyte, help protect the body from infection.  

  • Antibiotic Properties 

Studies have shown that the antibiotic properties of garlic are effective against bacteria and other viruses. I am definitely going to increase my garlic intake in the winter to be sure I do not catch a cold or flu. 😊 

  • Reduce Cholesterol Levels 

It has been proven that garlic has the ability to lower cholesterol levels. By no means are we encouraging you to chow down on more processed foods, but if your cholesterol is at risk, garlic may do the trick. 

  • Reduce High Blood Pressure 

Garlic has demonstrated that it has cardiovascular protective and immunomodulatory properties. Translation, LOL! For hyperintense individuals’ garlic may lower your blood pressure. 

Eat Garlic at Night 

If you prioritize your health or want to improve your health status, it may be beneficial to eat garlic at night or before you go to sleep. You may be able to finally toss your nose plug while you sleep. 

Garlic is often known as a remedy for insomnia. Allicin and magnesium are found in garlic, which may help relax the mind and lessen the nervous system tasks.

If you are having a hard time sleeping, eating garlic at night may clear your nasal passage and aid in fighting inflammation. Relax while you sleep!
