Crust/Base
- 250 grams Canned minced Beef
- 240 grams Plain flour extra for dusting and thickening
- 150 grams Unsalted butter
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 4 tblsp Water
Filling
- 2 tblsp Vegetable oil
- 1 large Chopped onion
- 1 cup Mixed bell peppers
- 3 medium Potatoes peel and cubes
Seasoning
- Knorr
- Powdered Pepper
- Cumin
- Flour
Make The Filling
Place a pan of oil on medium heat for about 2 minutes.
Add chopped onions and fry till onion is translucent.
Add in bell peppers and potatoes and fry for about 7 minutes.
Stir in seasoning and mix till all combines.
Reduce the heat, if need be, to avoid burning.
Pour in 200ml of water and allow to cook on low heat for about10 minutes stirring occasionally.
Add in canned beef and stir to combine.
Allow it to cook for additional 5 minutes.
Take it off the heat and allow to cool.
Make The Dough
In a shallow mixing bowl, add flour and salt and mix together.
Add in butter and rub together till all turn to crumbs.
Add 4 tablespoons of water and mix till all is combined. If the dough still needs water add a tablespoon of water at a time till you get well combined dough hat is able to fall apart easily.
Set dough aside in a cool place or a fridge for 30 minutes then you move on to preparing the meat filling.
Rolling and Making the Pie
Preheat oven at 180C/350F.
Sprinkle a bit of flour on your rolling surface.
Place some dough on and roll out flat using a rolling pin.
Cut out into desirable shapes. Repeat this process with the rest of the dough.
Brush one half of the dough with some flour & water mixture (to help with the seal) and add the meat filling to the center of the dough.
Carefully fold over the meat filling by making sure the 2 edges touch one another.
Repeat this process for the remaining dough and filling.
Place in the oven and bake for 25minutes at 180C⁰.
Tips
- You can use ground or minced beef in place of canned beef if desirable.
- Allow the filling to cool down completely before adding to pie dough.
- If using salted butter for this recipe, please omit salt from making the dough.
- Alternatively, make the short crust pastry in a food processor. It would only take you about 5 minutes top.
